Job Title: Kitchen Assistant
Location:Hythe Marina Village, Southampton (SO45)
Reports To: Head Chef / Catering Manager

Job Purpose:

To support the kitchen team in delivering nutritious, well-presented meals for residents while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene within the care home kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing ingredients and basic food items under the direction of the chef.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, and equipment.

  • Ensure all food is handled and stored in line with food safety regulations.

  • Support the serving of meals to residents when needed, ensuring a respectful and dignified approach.

  • Monitor and report food stock levels; help with deliveries and stock rotation.

  • Follow all food hygiene, health and safety procedures, and infection control standards.

  • Dispose of waste appropriately and maintain a tidy kitchen environment.

  • Cooperate with care and catering staff to ensure resident dietary needs are met.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or care environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety (Food Hygiene Certificate desirable).

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills and a caring, respectful approach to elderly residents.

  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
