Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher to join a welcoming and supportive secondary school community in Southampton. The successful candidate will teach German, French, and Spanish across Key Stages 3 and 4, inspiring students and fostering a deep appreciation for languages and cultures.

This is an exciting long-term opportunity, starting in September 2025, to make a real impact on the academic achievement and personal development of young learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver dynamic, engaging lessons in German, French, and Spanish, differentiated to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages language acquisition and intercultural understanding.

  • Utilise a variety of teaching strategies and resources, including communicative activities, multimedia content, and authentic materials.

  • Regularly assess student progress through formative and summative methods, providing constructive feedback to support continued development.

  • Contribute to the development of the MFL curriculum in collaboration with departmental colleagues.

  • Organise and participate in extracurricular activities, such as language clubs, international trips, and cultural events, to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Person Specification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Degree in Modern Foreign Languages or a related discipline.

  • Proficiency in German, French, and Spanish, with the ability to teach all three languages to a high standard.

  • Previous experience teaching MFL at secondary level, with evidence of strong outcomes.

  • Excellent subject knowledge combined with a genuine passion for language learning.

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.

  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and active participation in school-wide initiatives.
