Background

A business specialising in the repair and overhaul of marine exhaust gas turbochargers for the shipping industry now has a vacancy for Field Service engineer to join their expanding dynamic company.

Whilst the Field service engineer will be based in the company’s workshop in Totton, UK  the position will require extensive international travel.  There potentially could be excessive time away from home so flexibility is required

The Role

  • The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for overhauling and repairing exhaust gas turbochargers.
  • They will be working on diesel engines installed in vessels of all sizes, from fishing boats to large bulk carriers, container ships, land based power plants etc.
  • Work will be undertaken on both main propulsion plant and diesel generators.
  • Minimising merchant vessel downtime is critical.  There will be times, therefore, when the engineer will be required to work on a job for a sustained period of time to get the job done.
  • When not working away, the successful candidate will be required to work in the company’s workshops and, therefore, must live within commuting distance of Southampton

The Person

  • Will have a minimum of 3-5 years-experience working in a marine engineering capacity.
  • The person will ideally have 3-5 years working on marine turbochargers.  Will be a methodical and resourceful mechanical engineer capable of working both on their own initiative and running a team of engineers
  • The candidate will be prepared to spend long periods away from home, including weekends, and must have a flexible and positive attitude to work. 
  • The candidate must be proficient in all Microsoft office applications
  • The candidate must have experience working in reporting based systems
  • Experienced in reading measurement equipment
  • Excellent written and spoken English Language
