Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client, a dynamic consultancy in the water sector, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This opportunity allows you to work on exciting AMP8 and AMP9 projects, ensuring exceptional water services across the UK.

• Manage workloads across various long-term water industry projects.
• Strive for positive outcomes for both projects and the community.
• Collaborate closely with senior engineers and other stakeholders in project delivery.
• Mentor and guide less experienced team members, ensuring technical governance.
• Produce technical outputs, including specifications, schedules, and reports.
• Interpret and supervise the production of technical drawings and plans.
• Conduct asset condition surveys and prepare detailed reports and recommendations.
• Contribute to process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and produce design risk assessments.
• Act as project manager or design team leader as needed.

• Extensive experience in mechanical engineering, particularly within the water industry.
• Proficient in pump selection and the design of pumping systems.
• Skilled in producing specifications, reports, and other technical documentation.
• Ability to manage projects to time, cost, and quality criteria.
• Understanding of CDM regulations and designing for safety.
• Familiarity with contract procurement methods and NEC forms of contract.
• Experience in using AutoCAD or similar design software is advantageous.
• Capability to travel to and inspect operational and construction sites safely.

• Degree-level qualification in mechanical engineering or a closely related subject, ideally IMechE-accredited. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
• Chartered engineer status or working towards and nearing chartership.
