Category Buyer - Southampton 

Annual Salary: Up to £35,000

Hours/Days: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 08:30-17:00

Location: Onsite initially. Hybrid working available after completion of full training

Job Type: Full-time Permanent

Our client is a distribution company within FMCG in food, beverages and wellness, who are seeking an experienced and well-organised Category Buyer with expertise in all aspects of the procurement process. The successful candidate will join our client’s purchasing team, which supplies their customers with a wide range of products from various brands. This role involves high level of teamwork and also managing your own supplier relationships.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee a portfolio of supplier accounts.
  • Identify and engage with new suppliers and brands to expand our product range.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers to secure optimal agreements.
  • Formulate and execute strategic plans for key product categories.
  • Issue and expedite purchase orders to efficiently manage inventory.
  • Monitor and adjust stock levels to meet business goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, notably Excel and Word.
  • Advanced administrative skills, capable of utilizing reports and spotting trends.
  • Superior negotiation abilities.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a focus on meticulous attention to detail.
  • Self-driven and initiative-taking, able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Ability to adapt to the fast-paced and continuously evolving industry demands.
  • Effective relationship-building skills, with a knack for maintaining positive relationships with suppliers.
