I am currently recruiting on behalf of an electrical & mechanical company based in Southampton. Itis a growing M&E design and build contractor who work on varied projects across the south of England and in to London areas. They now seek a post-graduate/trainee QS to join the team on a permanent basis ranging salary between 28k - 32k p/a DOE. This will be a full-time office based permanent role, based in their office within Hedge End, Southampton.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with theirsenior management team across live projects, gaining hands-on experience in cost planning, procurement, and tender management, while developing toward professional accreditation. You will get exposure to all stages of MEP procurement and have support toward RICS chartership pathway.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop accurate Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and schedules of work for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) packages.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing tender documentation to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals, compile comparisons, and support award decisions.
  • Support procurement of subcontract packages, ensuring alignment with programme and budget.
  • Contribute to cost plans, value engineering, feasibility studies, and interim valuations.
  • Track project costs, maintain change control logs, and assist with pricing variations.
  • Monitor progress of MEP works alongside site and design teams.
  • Provide cost input for project meetings and assist in final account preparation.
  • Maintain commercial records in line with QA and audit requirements.

Qualifications Required

  • BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (RICS-accredited, completed or pending).
  • Desirable: Prior placement or internship experience in construction or building services procurement.
