Yard Operative

e are seeking a reliable and motivated Yard Operator to join a busy operations team. This role involves supporting the preparation, testing, and maintenance of diesel-powered equipment, ensuring all machinery and materials are kept in excellent working order and ready for deployment.

Although primarily depot-based, occasional travel to external sites may be required, so flexibility is important.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the service, maintenance, and general upkeep of yard and rental equipment.
• Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Operate a forklift truck within the yard (training will be provided if required).
• Record and report usage data such as operating hours and fuel levels for returning equipment.
• Support with equipment servicing and repairs on-site or off-site when necessary.
• Drive company vehicles to collect or deliver tools, parts, and materials after training.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free working environment.
• Follow all Health & Safety and environmental procedures.
• Contribute to ongoing improvements in operational standards and processes.

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

• Full UK driving licence (or working towards one).
• Forklift Truck Licence (training available if needed).
• Previous experience in a yard, depot, or workshop environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Positive, flexible, and safety-conscious approach to work.

Desirable:

• CSCS Card.
• Basic mechanical knowledge, ideally of diesel engines or similar machinery.
• Experience handling industrial or rental equipment.

Working Conditions

• Primarily depot-based role with occasional site visits.
• Manual handling and outdoor work in varying weather conditions required.
• PPE and full training provided.
