Morson Technical Services are looking to recruit a number of Test and Installation Engineers to work for one of our prestigious clients based in Southampton. These are fixed term contract positions for 6 months initially.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide Technical support on electronic systems and equipment to a National IT platform within a security infrastructure  in outdoor locations, by resolving incidents and undertaking commissioning, and planned maintenance as required. The Test Support Engineer operates within a defined geographic area and as such will require regular travel and good use of communications technologies to maintain contact with team members and Customers.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND TASKS

  • To respond to requests for work from the Management Team to investigate and resolve reported incidents and test activities.
  • Undertake scheduled routine maintenance and test activities, upgrades and changes to the deployed Systems where necessary.
  • Provide comprehensive failure reports detailing the investigation, fault resolution and any follow up work that may be necessary.
  • Work closely with Suppliers to deliver the necessary level of maintenance to all aspects of the System.
  • Work collaboratively with the Shared Service Delivery Teams to ensure that all work completed is within the defined specification.
  • Communicate effectively with Customers at all levels in the resolution of incidents and service requests.
  • Undertake hardware installation including electrical configuration, diagnostics and rectification.
  • Operating system installation, configuration diagnostics and rectification. Application installation, configuration, diagnostics and rectification.
  • Adherence to ITIL process, including (but not limited to); change management, incident management, problem management.
  • Liaison with other elements of the Service delivery, project management and the Customer to ensure effective Customer focused resolution of incidents and service requests.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is updated and maintained.
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and security of the vehicle, tools, equipment and spare assets entrusted to their care by the Company.
  • Accurately record and submit (within a timely manner) all routine documentation including ticket updates, timesheets and other related administration.
  • Maintain relevant passes for access to Customer Sites as required.
  • Any other reasonable requests from the business.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in commissioning, diagnosing and maintaining IT Systems and associated outdoor hardware.
  • Broad knowledge of technology solutions, hardware and networks, including MS Server products
  • Must be a confident problem solver.
  • A strong demonstrable sense of H&S awareness is essential.
  • Ability to build relationships quickly with Customers and other Stakeholders.
  • Team player capable of working from own initiative with minimal guidance.
  • Good Customer facing skills are mandatory.
  • Proficient in using instrumentation equipment and application software related to the field activities, including Power Ups, UPSs, Cisco, Fibre knowledge, Imagery Systems/Cameras and knowledge of Traffic Management Systems an advantage but not essential.
  • A team player with a proactive attitude to collective responsibility for the team and its workload.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges combined with the ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
  • Must be happy to work at heights.

Role demands regular travel and good use of communications technologies to maintain contact with team members and customers.
