Assistant Accountant

Part Time: 22.5 hours per week, 1 year Fixed Term Contract

I am recruiting a part time Assistant Accountant to join my client who is a compassionate, mission-led organisation. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting and financial expertise who thrives in a collaborative and proactive environment. You will engage with various departments and projects, ensuring the smooth operation of the financial process.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Maintain accurate financial records, process income, expenditure, and perform reconciliations.
  • Prepare and post monthly accruals, prepayments, and other accounting entries.
  • Support the processing of purchase invoices, staff expenses, payments, and monthly salary journals.
  • Assist in the annual budget setting and monthly management accounts review.
  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register and ensure the balance sheet reflects accurate values.
  • Track capital expenditure requests and monitor spending against budgets.
  • Manage weekly cash flow movements and bank account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile fundraising income system transactions to the finance system and support monthly payroll checking.
  • Provide cover for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as needed and handle cash management for events.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong financial expertise with a thorough understanding of accounting practices and financial systems.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and proactively within a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in financial software, preferably Sage, and strong skills in Excel and other accounting tools.
