We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Male Teaching Assistant to join a special school in Southend-on-Sea. This full-time, contract role is a fantastic opportunity to support students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping them develop their confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

As a Male Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide individual and small group support, ensuring that every student has access to an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. You will play a key role in promoting positive relationships, supporting emotional regulation, and helping pupils achieve their potential, both academically and personally.

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, adaptable, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support to students with additional learning needs.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs where necessary, maintaining dignity and respect at all times.
  • Support students with their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils to build their confidence and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to implement individual learning plans (ILPs).
  • Help to create a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Record and report on student progress as required.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare and well-being of all students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential.
  • A patient, supportive, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
