SEN Teaching Assistant – Physical Disabilities, Medical Needs & Autism (ASC)

GSL Education are currently looking for compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to support students with physical disabilities, medical needs, and Autism (ASC) at schools in Southsea. This role offers flexibility – you can work in one school long-term, or choose a 0-hour contract for more variety across different schools.

You will be part of a dedicated team supporting pupils within the classroom and on a 1:1 or small group basis, ensuring their physical, medical, and emotional needs are met. This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to build a career in SEN education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with complex physical or medical conditions, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the school day
  • Work closely with pupils with Autism to help them access learning and develop communication and social skills
  • Follow care and medical plans, administer medication (if trained), and assist with personal care where needed
  • Collaborate with teachers and external professionals to support each pupil’s individual learning journey

To be successful in this role, it is desirable if you:

  • Have experience working with children or adults with physical disabilities, medical needs, and/or Autism
  • Have experience in moving and handling, personal care, or medical support (training can be provided)
  • Are calm, empathetic, and confident in managing challenging behaviours
  • Have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs, or are eager to learn
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

To work with GSL Education as a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
