Building Control Officer (Interim Contract - 6 Months)

About the Role 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Building Control Officer to join a forward-thinking local authority in the East Midlands on an interim basis. 
This role offers a chance to play a key part in delivering safe, compliant and sustainable buildings across the region. You'll be responsible for assessing building regulation applications, carrying out site inspections, and providing technical guidance to homeowners, developers and contractors. 
As part of a supportive team, you'll contribute to a high-quality, citizen-focused Building Control service, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and upholding the highest professional and safety standards. 
Key Responsibilities 
路Assess Building Regulation applications including full plans, building notices, and regularisation applications. 
路Carry out site inspections at various construction stages to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and allied legislation. 
路Provide technical advice to applicants, agents, builders and the public on design compliance, procedures, and best practice. 
路Maintain accurate electronic records of site visits, decisions and correspondence. 
路Identify and report unauthorised works, assisting with investigations and enforcement actions. 
路Support senior officers with dangerous structures and demolition inspections. 
路Promote sustainability, accessibility and fire safety within new and existing developments. 
路Keep up to date with legislative changes, materials and construction techniques. 
路Maintain professional registration with the Building Safety Regulator and complete annual CPD.

About You 
You'll be an enthusiastic and technically capable Building Control professional with strong communication skills and a proactive approach. You'll enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, ensuring that buildings meet required standards while delivering excellent customer service. 
Essential Skills and Experience: 
路Working knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation. 
路Ability to assess plans and conduct inspections for domestic and low-rise commercial buildings. 
路Understanding of construction methods, materials and on-site safety. 
路Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise reports. 
路Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing workloads. 
路IT proficiency, including use of building control software and mobile inspection tools. 
路Commitment to delivering excellent customer service and professional standards. 
Qualifications: 
路Minimum Level 4 or 5 qualification in Building Control, Construction, Surveying, or a related discipline (e.g. HNC/HND). 
路Registered Building Inspector (Class 2 or 3) with the Building Safety Regulator. 
路Membership of a professional body (e.g. CABE, RICS, CIOB) desirable. 
路Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
