Job Title: Private Client Tax Manager - open to a Senior Tax Manager
Location: Hertfordshire, AL1
Salary: Up to £80,000!
About the Role:
You'll be responsible for both compliance and advisory work, developing client relationships, and mentoring junior team members. Their diverse client base primarily consists of HNWIs including sole-traders and partnerships. While most clients are UK resident, you'll also handle non-resident and non-domiciliary issues, particularly planning for individuals moving to and from the UK. Additionally, you'll work with clients who are beneficiaries of both UK and non-UK trusts.
Key Responsibilities -
Client Management & Compliance:
- Oversee all aspects of income tax (including National Insurance) and capital gains tax
- Review Self-Assessment tax returns prepared by team members before client approval and electronic filing
- Monitor and review PAYE coding notices where appropriate
- Oversee information collection for tax return preparation, liaising with third-party professionals and clients
Advisory & Planning:
- Assist partners in delivering high-value advisory services, including preparing reports on:
- Inheritance tax planning
- Residence issues
- UK trusts
- Business structure recommendations
- Handle correspondence with HMRC for s9A enquiries
- Prepare disclosures under the digital disclosure facility
Business Development & Leadership:
- Prepare for and attend meetings with existing and potential clients
- Set budgets for follow-up work and ensure timely completion within budget
- Bill clients quarterly, including making reserves and communicating billing concerns to partners
- Monitor personal time budgets and chargeability
- Contribute to departmental management meetings
- Network at events for business development
- Train and supervise junior staff members
Requirements -
Qualifications:
- CTA qualified
- Minimum 5 years' private client tax experience
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong client-facing experience with confidence in client meetings and regular communications
- Excellent organizational abilities to meet all deadlines efficiently
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently without supervision
- Initiative in handling clients' affairs and monitoring time budgets
- Proficient computer skills including sound knowledge of Word, Excel, and CCH packages
- Experience with SharePoint
- Effective people management capabilities
- Commercial awareness
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
