Operations Director (FMCG)

Reed are seeking an Operations Director with a strong background in FMCG, preferably with experience in the seafood industry, to provide strategic and operational leadership in Cornwall. This role is ideal for a leader who is passionate about driving operational excellence and fostering a culture of continual improvement.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure production sites efficiently accommodate increased volume and support new product processes for business development targets.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence and continual improvement to enhance work experiences and optimise processes for further business wins.
  • Lead, engage, and develop the Production/Process/Engineering teams, including providing training, supervision, and development opportunities.
  • Ensure planning and production levels meet agreed KPIs and company standards, driving performance improvement through operational efficiencies and quality enhancements.
  • Oversee the monitoring of raw material yields, efficiency achievements, and the reduction of wastage.
  • Evaluate capital investment plans, including conducting payback calculations and creating a pipeline of industry-leading opportunities for assessment against agreed capital budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with technical systems, Food Hygiene, HACCP, GMP, and specific customer standards across all operations.
  • Act as the ultimate Health & Safety duty holder for both sites, promoting a culture of safe working and ensuring compliance with policy procedures and risk assessments.
  • Cascade relevant business information to teams in a timely manner to ensure operational alignment and conduct regular production/team meetings.
  • Conduct regular appraisals and HR reviews, setting KPIs and addressing performance and development issues with HR Management as necessary.
  • Actively seek and implement improvements in equipment, processes, and products to foster a forward-thinking production culture.
  • Liaise with the Board and Senior Management, keeping them apprised of relevant issues, and attend meetings and briefings as required.
  • Cooperate with inspectors and auditors, providing relevant and accurate information as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in an FMCG environment, preferably within the fish industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage and develop teams.
  • Excellent strategic planning and operational management abilities.
  • Knowledge of Food Hygiene, HACCP, GMP, and customer-specific standards.
  • Experience in managing capital investment plans and conducting payback calculations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining strong relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain flexible with changing priorities.
