About the School
This Specialist School is a dynamic and inclusive environment where they cater to approximately 220 students aged 11 to 19 with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD). The school offers three carefully designed pathways to suit the individual needs and potential of each student.

Pathway 1: Focuses on sensory exploration to engage students with their world, promoting communication, specific interests, and physical well-being. Students will receive tailored resources and support to meet their unique needs.
Pathway 2: Active, hands-on learning with a focus on functional English and Maths to promote independence and prepare students for adult life.
Pathway 3: Maximising attainment in Maths and English, with the opportunity to achieve entry-level accreditation where possible.

The Role
We are looking for enthusiastic, committed professionals who can support students across all three pathways, helping them to engage with learning, develop communication skills, and work towards independence. As a member of the team, you will play a crucial role in providing personalised, compassionate support for students with complex learning and physical needs, encouraging their personal growth and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to students with PMLD/SLD and physical difficulties across all three learning pathways.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to implement individualised learning plans.
  • Use sensory approaches, hands-on activities, and targeted teaching techniques to enhance student engagement and progress.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and physical support as needed.
  • Foster an inclusive and positive environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including therapists and support staff, to ensure holistic care and development.

Essential Requirements:

  • Moving and Handling training is a must, to provide safe support for students with physical disabilities and mobility needs
  • Experience working with students or individuals with complex learning difficulties, PMLD, SLD, or physical disabilities is desirable.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students' needs.
  • A commitment to fostering independence and encouraging personal growth.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or care (e.g., Teaching Assistant qualification, NVQ in Health and Social Care) would be an advantage but not essential.
