Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Port Health duties with professional and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with a team of Port Health Officers, Senior Technical Officers, and Veterinarians to deliver an efficient and responsive service.
- Advise on and enforce Port Health regulations, conduct inspections, interventions, and casework as per the Business Plan.
- Lead and represent the service in a specialist area, staying updated on legislation and best practices, and developing relevant policies and procedures.
Contract Details:
Hours: The role will have an unsociable hourly rate when working early / late / weekends.
Pay: £48.98ph (umbrella rate)
Contract length: 6 months (potential to extend till March 2026)
Location: Based at London Gateway, Atlantic Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, SS17 9ER, with travel to other port locations including Tilbury, Purfleet, Thame Port, Sheerness, and London City Airport.
Days in the office:
- 60% - Will be spent at a City of London Port or a Boarder Control Post (BCP).
- 40% - Can be worked remotely at home.
Essential Criteria:
- Full clean driving license, own car, and business insurance (entry to the port is only allowed by car).
- Must be a qualified Environmental Health Officer (not just a Port Health Officer).
- Degree or Masters in Environmental Health.
- Registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CHIE) as an Environmental Health Officer (EHORB).
- No allergies to high-risk foods (e.g., fish, nuts, chilies) and must be able to handle non-halal food and alcohol.
