Design Lead - Hertford (Remote/Flexible) - £55,000 to £70,000 + Benefits

A growing UK-based specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Design Lead to take ownership of key technical projects and guide the delivery of innovative, high-performance design solutions. Based in Hertford, this role offers remote working flexibility, making it ideal for experienced designers looking to lead creatively while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience in a senior design role within engineering, construction, architecture, or related sectors.

  • Strong portfolio of delivering high-quality technical drawings, concepts, and project documentation.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) and design coordination tools.

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing design teams or multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Familiarity with acoustic, mechanical, or building services engineering projects.

  • Experience with BIM workflows and compliance with UK construction standards.

  • Ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to design process development.

The Role:As Design Lead, you'll take a central role in the delivery of engineering and architectural design packages for major UK projects. You'll be responsible for design quality, coordination with internal and external teams, and ensuring solutions are functional, buildable, and aligned with client expectations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design process across multiple technical projects.

  • Producing and reviewing detailed drawings and specifications.

  • Liaising with engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.

  • Managing workflow, deadlines, and design standards.

  • Supporting the growth of the design function and junior staff.

This is a full-time role based in Hertford, with the option to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity.
