Laboratory Quality Lead

Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

The Opportunity

We're seeking a Laboratory Quality Lead to oversee and manage quality assurance for all mechanical and environmental testing operations within an accredited laboratory setting. In this role, you will serve as the designated UKAS Quality Manager, ensuring full compliance with ISO 17025 across all accredited test activities.

You will work closely with both the site leadership team and the central quality assurance function to maintain rigorous adherence to internal procedures and testing protocols. As a core member of the local management team, the Laboratory Quality Lead reports directly to the Head of Mechanical and Environmental Testing and collaborates with engineers and team leads to deliver reliable, standards-compliant testing services.

Key responsibilities include conducting internal audits, resolving quality issues, and overseeing internal calibration processes. You'll play a central role in safeguarding the laboratory's UKAS accreditation while supporting continuous improvement in test execution and documentation.

The department conducts a broad spectrum of technically demanding environmental tests, supporting equipment qualification at multiple system levels. You'll join a cooperative and supportive team environment with ample opportunities to grow and contribute to varied testing and quality initiatives.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven background in Quality Assurance or Quality Management
  • Understanding of environmental testing and/or calibration processes
  • Hands-on experience managing non-conformances and quality improvement
  • Skilled in creating and evaluating technical documents and standard procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with or under UKAS accreditation
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 and its practical implementation
  • Knowledge of DEF STAN 00-035 or equivalent environmental engineering standards
