Mechanical Technician - AIT


Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Contract Type: Inside IR35, permanent or long term contract
Salary/Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience and seniority

We are currently recruiting for Mechanical Technicians to join our team supporting a leading customer in the space sector. This is a site-based role in Stevenage, offering the opportunity to work on pioneering satellite technology within a high-growth area of our business.

As part of an international organisation expanding its internal space capability, this position offers excellent career development prospects within Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT). The successful candidates will contribute to mechanical operations across Manufacturing, Panels, Structures and Propulsion departments, supporting the manufacture, assembly and testing of satellite components and structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret work orders and 3D engineering drawings to carry out mechanical assembly
  • Install and integrate kits of parts using engineering data and torque specifications
  • Perform a wide range of mechanical tasks including equipment inspection, bonding, panel cutting, thermal blanket fitting, cable routing and hardware installation
  • Support environmental testing activities including vibration, acoustic, mass properties and thermal tests
  • Assist in documentation, process improvement and standardisation initiatives
  • Participate in Non-Conformance Review Boards and support rework instructions
  • Contribute to the development of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and planning documentation

Desirable but non essential Experience:

  • RF and optical cable routing
  • Clean room operations
  • Familiarity with COSHH and risk assessments
  • Use of Apriso or EWIS systems

Qualifications:

  • NC, HNC or HND in Engineering or Maintenance
    OR
  • Apprenticeship in Aerospace, Space or other high-quality production field with relevant mechanical engineering experience
