The main duties of this position will be to complete repairs and maintenance to rail freight vehicles in line with company or customer specifications. The work involves manual lifting, working under rail wagons, loading and offloading spares and equipment from vans, some working at height tasks, driving, grinding, burning, welding, fabricating, gauging, brake testing, or other tasks as directed by supervisors.
Key Tasks
- Completing PPM and VIBT events
- Complete Balanced Maintenance events as and when required
- Completing trip inspection
- Cosmetic cleaning and painting as required
- Fitting decals as required
- Brake testing and fault finding
- Removal and fitting of brake blocks
- Exchanging wheelsets
- Removal and fitting of failed components from rail vehicles
- Removal and fitting of brake equipment
- Damage repairs
- Heavy repairs as required to include bogie overhaul or wagon refurbishments
- Rail vehicle modifications as required
- Working to repair and maintain specifications
- Booking up of all work tasks as per Client requirements
- Ensuring all Health and Safety legislation/requirements are complied with
- Assist with any other work requirement as directed by your line manager
The Candidate
- Have an interest and experience in hands-on, mechanical work
- Be willing to learn, and fully embrace the training & assessment process
- Be able to take on board instructions and work in a safely critical area
- Willing to work weekends
Essential
- Due to the nature of this work being physically demanding, any potential candidates will be required to undergo a medical and drugs and alcohol screening prior to start
- Full UK Driving license is essential
The work involves kneeling and crawling under and around wagons and lifting and carrying materials. When working by the line side, this involves walking on ballast or uneven ground. The work involves a driving to the places of work within a set area or to wagon breakdowns.
