Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Entry and Record Management:

    • Accurately enter prime records into accounting software.
    • Maintain and update financial records to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Reconciliation and Balancing:

    • Reconcile and balance nominal accounts, including:
      • Bank accounts
      • Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
      • Pay As You Earn (PAYE)
      • Hire Purchase/Lease agreements
  • VAT Preparation and Submission:

    • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with current regulations.
    • Ensure timely and accurate VAT reporting.
  • Client Liaison:

    • Assist clients with business record-keeping and financial queries.
    • Provide guidance and support to clients on financial best practices.
  • HMRC Liaison:

    • Communicate with HMRC to resolve client issues and ensure compliance.
    • Address and manage any discrepancies or queries from HMRC.
  • Technology and Efficiency Improvement:

    • Support clients in transitioning to Making Tax Digital (MTD) and other technological advancements.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency using technology.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper, preferably within an accountancy practice.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of nominal account reconciliation and VAT regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with MTD and other digital accounting tools is a plus.
