The Role of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll play a key part in taking projects from concept through to production and installation.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing custom HVAC systems using 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor).
- Producing P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Performing airflow, psychrometric, and heat load calculations.
- Selecting and specifying fans, filters, coils, heaters, and control components.
- Collaborating with project managers, site engineers, and suppliers.
- Supporting installation and commissioning activities (some UK/international travel).
- Ensuring all designs meet CE/UKCA compliance and relevant directives.
About the Mechanical Design Engineer:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will need to be someone who enjoys problem-solving and working in a fast-paced project environment where no two days are the same.
Essential Requirements:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or HVAC Design.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within HVAC, air handling, or building services.
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor.
- Good understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and ventilation systems.
- Full UK driving licence (company pool van or mileage expenses provided).
Desirable:
- Experience with HVAC or air-handling projects.
- Familiarity with ATEX components and CE/UKCA directives.
- Some understanding of electrical systems (wiring, controls, motor drives).
