Job Description - HSE Officer



Overview

We are seeking an experienced and people-focused HSE Officer to join our team. This role requires someone who is a strong cultural fit-engaging, personable, and not "robotic" in their approach. You will support multiple sites and teams to ensure high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide HSE support across approximately 250 employees across Warrington, Bredbury, and Sheffield.

  • Conduct and manage audits, safe systems of work (SSOW), and risk assessments.

  • Promote a positive safety culture and support continuous improvement in HSE practices.

  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company standards.

  • Work closely with the HSE Manager, providing site-level insights and support.



Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Background in manufacturing or engineering.

  • Experience conducting HSE audits, SSOW, and risk assessments.

  • A practical, engaging communication style with strong cultural alignment.

Highly Advantageous:

  • Experience working within the steel industry.

Not Suitable:

  • Candidates from a food manufacturing background.

Other:

  • Time-served experience is acceptable alongside formal HSE qualifications.



Department Structure

  • Reports directly to the HSE Manager.

  • Works as part of the wider HSE function supporting multiple sites and approximately 250 employees.



Package & Benefits

  • Salary: 32,000 - 38,000 (up to 40,000 for the ideal candidate)

  • Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm

  • Shift Pattern: Days

  • Holidays: 25 days + 8 statutory

  • Pension: 4% employer / 5% employee

  • Life Assurance: 3x salary
