- Monday to Thursday: 6:30 AM - 3:30 PM
- Friday: 6:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Pay Rate: 12.21 per hour
Overtime: Paid at 1.5x for hours worked beyond 40 per week
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our quality team. This role is critical in ensuring that all raw materials and finished flour products meet stringent quality standards and comply with industry protocols. You will be responsible for conducting tests, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the smooth operation of the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine testing on wheat, flour, and related products to verify compliance with specifications.
- Interpret customer and product specifications and ensure accurate data entry into internal systems.
- Monitor and record wheat and flour test results, escalating any deviations from standards.
- Analyse flour during production and check bagged and loaded deliveries for quality compliance.
- Prepare and issue certificates of conformity for customers.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and retain samples as required.
- Ensure all data is logged efficiently and correctly in designated databases.
- Support senior laboratory staff with various tasks and projects.
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment in line with food safety regulations.
- Uphold compliance with CLAS and nabim standards.
- Carry out manual handling tasks when necessary.
Candidate Requirements
- Ideally educated to A-Level in Biology or Chemistry (or equivalent), or 5 GCSEs including Maths.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certification is desirable.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles; HACCP knowledge is advantageous.
- Previous experience in a food or drink quality control laboratory is preferred.
- Strong IT skills for data input and report generation; training on internal systems will be provided.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proactive, reliable, and confident in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
- Must hold a valid UK work permit for full-time employment.
