Elvet Recruitment are working with a well-established specialist contractor operating within the construction sector, who are looking for a Finance Manager to join their team in the County Durham area.

As a Finance Manager you will play a key part in the successful delivery of projects, contributing to precision-led work on site and collaborating with wider teams to ensure high standards are maintained from start to finish.
Main duties

Oversee the preparation, accuracy, and delivery of monthly and annual financial reporting, including management accounts, balance sheets, and profit and loss statements.

Ensure full compliance with all applicable financial regulations, standards, and statutory requirements.

Manage the timely completion and submission of VAT returns, PAYE, and other regulatory filings.

Take responsibility for payroll operations, alongside accounts payable and receivable functions.

Monitor and control cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure to support business performance.

Produce financial insights, analysis, and strategic recommendations to inform senior-level decision-making.

Maintain and develop financial systems, driving continuous improvement where appropriate.

Lead, support, and develop a small finance team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and high standards are consistently met.
Skills and experience

Proven experience operating in a senior or leadership finance position.

Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).

Strong experience in management reporting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial controls.

Commercially astute, with the ability to clearly communicate financial information to non-finance stakeholders.

Advanced spreadsheet and financial modelling skills.

Confident working closely with senior management and key decision-makers.

Background within the construction sector would be advantageous, though not essential.
