Rubicon Consultingis currently recruiting for a Fitter NPG on a permanent basis based in the North East.

Role Summary

The Fitter/Wireman will form part of our operational delivery team working on the Northern Powergrid (NPG) electricity distribution network. The role involves the installation, maintenance, refurbishment, and repair of LV and HV distribution assets, ensuring all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with NPG standards, procedures, and safety rules.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out fitting and wiring activities on LV and HV electricity distribution networks in accordance with Northern Powergrid standards, specifications, and approved work instructions.

Install, terminate, test, and commission cables, switchgear, substations, and associated electrical equipment.

Undertake planned maintenance, fault finding, and repair works on NPG network assets.

Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with our and Northern Powergrid health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.

Read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.

Complete all required site documentation accurately, including permits, test results, asset records, and as-built information.

Work effectively as part of a site team, liaising with supervisors, site managers, control rooms, and other stakeholders.

Maintain tools, plant, equipment, and company vehicles in a safe, serviceable, and compliant condition.

Support outage preparation, restoration activities, and emergency response where required.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Comply fully with the Electricity at Work Regulations, CDM Regulations, HSG47, and Northern Powergrid Safety Rules.

Work strictly under the correct safety documentation, including permits, isolations, risk assessments, and method statements.

Actively promote a positive safety culture, reporting hazards, near misses, and unsafe acts or conditions.

Ensure environmental controls and quality standards are applied and maintained at all times.

Requirements

Skills & Experience

Proven experience working as a Fitter/Wireman within the electricity distribution sector.

Experience working on or around LV and HV distribution networks.

Ability to understand and work from electrical drawings and technical documentation.

Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and compliance.

Previous experience working on the Northern Powergrid (NPG) network.

Experience in substation construction, refurbishment, or cable installation works.

Fault-finding and testing experience on distribution assets.

Essential:

Relevant electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Power Engineering or a related discipline).

Current UK driving licence.

Northern Powergrid authorisations or the ability to obtain them.

Desirable:

HV and/or LV switching authorisations.

First Aid at Work.

CSCS/ECS or equivalent industry card.

Manual Handling, IPAF, confined space, or additional safety training.
