About the Principal Financial Accountant opportunity:

We are supporting Stoke-on-Trent City Council exclusively with the recruitment for a Principal Financial Accountant to join their finance team permanently. This role comes with a competitive salary of 60,000 and offers hybrid working to suit your work-life balance.

Purpose of the Principal Financial Accountant opportunity:

To lead a professionally focused corporate finance team.
Provide financial and commercial advice and support across a range of directorates.
To ensure the council produces the necessary information and control mechanisms to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Principal Financial Accountant will include:

To assist and support the Chief Accountant in providing strategic financial direction.
Lead on the delivery of high-quality, efficient financial services and regulations to support the delivery of corporate aims and objectives.
To support and represent the city council strategic objectives.
Ensure statutory accounts are prepared accurately and on time in line with regulatory requirements.
Contribute to the development and oversee the treasury management activities.

Required experience of the Principal Financial Accountant:

A fully qualified finance professional (CIPFA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent).
Experience in statutory reporting and treasury management.
Strong knowledge of corporate financial policies and strategies.
Experience of implementing financial strategies.
Strong hands-on technical experience in financial accounting.
