Design Engineer (Remote)
This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a good technical background and demonstrable experience in taking the responsibility for producing foundations or geotechnical based designs from within the power T&D sector, including OHL or steel pylons and towers. Occasional midlands office presence, with working from home.
Due to continued expansion and an abundant pipeline of works, our client is now looking to appoint a Design Engineer who will take the responsibility for supporting the design aspects of the companys full suite of techniques and disciplines, specifically for their power T&D division, covering projects within the high voltage (HV), extra high voltage (EHV), overhead line (OHL) steel lattice towers and steel pylons, all carrying overhead power lines and cables.
The successful candidate must be able to review enquiry documentation to determine the key considerations associated with proposed projects. Our client seeks a high calibre professional with enthusiasm and drive to make an impact. You must have strong technical acumen coupled with a general passion for ground engineering. You will also have a professional approach and a keen eye for detail, along with excellent communication and IT skills.
The Person
Experience of undertaking pile and foundations designs using appropriate software packages
Experience of designing piling works covering a wide range of techniques, disciplines, values, sectors and complexities
Ability to work in isolation sometimes and to communicate complex technical matters simply and clearly both in writing and verbally
Enthusiasm and results focussed, with an ability to work well under pressure and to challenging or stringent deadlines
Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external clients and teams
The Role
To understand and deliver the client's requirements and liaise with other designers, clients and main contractors to optimize the best engineering solution.
Ensure the appropriate selection of piling and foundation technique is chosen to suit ground conditions.
To undertake geotechnical analysis using in-house and commercially available software in accordance with the relevant codes of practice and prepare reports for submittal to clients and respond to technical queries raised during the approval process.
Preparation of settlement packs for review by the business at meetings.
Preparation of contract design documents, drawings and schedules.
Awareness of risk including H&S, geotechnical and commercial aspects.
To liaise and provide support to the operation team during the installation phase
To produce as built documentation post construction.
Develop long lasting relationships with clients to encourage repeat business.
Co-ordinating and responding to client's requests by gaining experience from colleagues.
Collaborative working with other group business units to achieve shared end goals.
