CAD Technician – Sheet Metalwork | £35,000 – £40,000 | Office-Based (ST5)

Design it. Improve it. See it made.

Broxap is a market-leading UK manufacturer of street furniture, shelters and outdoor structures — and we’re growing.

We’re now looking for an experienced Sheet Metalwork CAD Technician to help modernise our design library, drive manufacturing efficiency, and play a hands-on role in how our products are designed and produced.

This is an office-based role — you must be able to commute to ST5.

The CAD Technician Role:

This is a practical, improvement-focused CAD role where you’ll take ownership of our existing 2D designs and transform them into robust, optimised 3D sheet metal models ready for modern manufacturing.

You’ll work closely with our Technical Director, Design Manager and Production teams, ensuring designs are efficient, manufacturable, and future-ready.

What You’ll Get:

  • £35,000 – £40,000 salary
  • Company pension
  • Discretionary profit share
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Free on-site parking
  • Free beverages and excellent staff facilities
  • A stable, long-term role with a respected UK manufacturer
  • Real influence over how products are designed and made

Key Responsibilities of the CAD Technician:

  • Convert & Upgrade Designs
Maintain and catalogue our existing 2D AutoCAD flat patterns, then develop them into accurate, optimised 3D models using Autodesk Inventor (preferred) or SolidWorks.
  • Engineering Change & Optimisation
Implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to improve manufacturability, reduce material waste, and align designs with new production technologies.
  • Manufacturing-Led Design
Adapt designs for modern sheet metal processes including laser cutting, CNC punching and automated bending.
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM)
Ensure designs are cost-effective, modular, and production-efficient, improving lead times and material utilisation.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate 3D models, drawings and change logs while contributing to ongoing design and process improvements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Sheet Metalwork CAD / Draughting role.
  • Strong 2D AutoCAD experience.
  • Solid 3D sheet metal modelling skills using Autodesk Inventor (preferred) or SolidWorks; Training on our preferred 3D suite is available for the right candidate.
  • Good understanding of bending processes and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Experience designing for CNC, laser cutting and modern manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to analyse related products and improve modularity and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of outdoor materials such as pre-galv, stainless steel and aluminium.
  • Clear communicator with strong attention to detail.
  • Engineering or design qualification beneficial, but not essential.
