Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Education & Progress Manager to lead on the development, monitoring, and improvement of learner outcomes across all curriculum areas at HMYOI Werrington.
This role is central to driving high-quality teaching, robust assessment practices, and continuous academic progress for all learners. You will lead on data-driven decision-making, implement effective intervention strategies, and ensure teaching excellence across the department.
Alongside management responsibilities, you will also play an active role in classroom delivery to maintain strong visibility and influence across the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Development
- Lead the development and implementation of the whole-department strategy for raising attainment and progress.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum leads and senior management to set ambitious performance targets.
- Drive a culture of high expectations, consistency, and continuous quality improvement.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Oversee the collection and analysis of assessment and performance data across all subjects.
- Track learner progress, identify gaps, and recommend effective interventions.
- Produce clear and accurate attainment and progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
- Support curriculum leads to ensure teaching, learning, and assessment meet high standards across all learning areas.
- Model and guide effective assessment for learning practices, curriculum planning, and progress monitoring.
- Lead and participate in learning walks, lesson observations, and quality reviews.
- Deliver teaching sessions as part of the role.
Intervention & Support
- Design targeted intervention strategies for identified groups, including SEND, EAL, disadvantaged learners, and higher prior attainers.
- Monitor the impact of interventions and adjust provision where required.
- Ensure robust support is in place for learners who are underperforming.
Staff Development
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to teaching staff on assessment, pedagogy, and attainment improvement.
- Support curriculum leaders in designing and evaluating curriculum intent, implementation, and impact.
- Lead targeted CPD sessions focused on raising learner outcomes and staff capability.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure assessment and reporting practices meet internal and statutory requirements.
- Contribute to self-assessment, quality reports, and preparation for inspection frameworks.
- Maintain high standards of documentation and quality assurance across the department.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate attainment and progress information effectively to staff teams, governors, parents/carers, and external partners.
- Work collaboratively with relevant agencies, exam bodies, and educational partners.
- Promote an inclusive, aspirational, and supportive learning environment for all learners.
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in an educational leadership or management role.
- Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment systems, and learner progress tracking.
- Excellent data analysis skills with the ability to turn insights into actionable strategies.
- Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead teams and influence improvements in teaching and learning.
Desirable Criteria:
Experience within cross-curricular or whole-school leadership.
Understanding of Ofsted or similar inspection frameworks.
Experience improving outcomes for diverse or disadvantaged learner groups.
Level 5 teaching qualification or above.
