MERITUS are recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to join our client in a permanent position in Staffordshire to support various Energy projects.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - PERMANENT - STONE, STAFFORDSHIRE - 2 STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS

We are working with a respected client in the engineering sector who is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of control systems projects within the energy or utilities industries. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to play a pivotal role in the successful execution of high-value projects across the full lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring technical accuracy and timely delivery.

  • Review and approve design work produced by the engineering team.

  • Ensure all designs adhere to agreed methods, procedures, and industry standards.

  • Interpret and verify technical data, drawings, and specifications provided by the client.

  • Develop and oversee complete system designs based on customer requirements.

  • Create and modify comprehensive design packs including general arrangements, system drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.

  • Produce essential documentation such as Functional Design Specifications, testing protocols, user manuals, and installation guides.

  • Conduct site surveys and contribute to the preparation of health and safety documentation.

  • Support on-site commissioning and acceptance testing.

  • Assist with the preparation of tender documentation and cost estimates.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in control systems or electrical engineering within the energy, utilities, or a similar process-focused industry.

  • Strong understanding of field cabling systems (power, instrumentation, control, and communications) including routing, cable sizing, and earthing/protection.

  • Proficient in control panel design, including PLCs, I/O, communication cards, and UPS systems.

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, or HND with significant additional experience (minimum 5 years post-degree or 6 years post-HND).

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

  • Methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and generating supporting documentation.

  • Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle.

  • Willingness to undergo a basic Disclosure Scotland check.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with any of the following platforms:

    • Rockwell (ControlLogix)

    • Siemens (PCS7, TIA Portal)

    • Schneider (M580, M340)

  • Experience with site installation and commissioning of control systems.

  • Understanding of Motor Control Centres (MCC) - from specification to installation.

  • Familiarity with BS7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations).

  • Awareness of DSEAR regulations and hazardous area compliance.

  • Understanding of Functional Safety standards (IEC 61508 / 61511).

  • Ability to manage time effectively, working within deadlines and budget constraints.
