Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead a specialist Overhaul Department within a growing engineering business in Stroud.
This hands-on role focuses on the overhaul and maintenance of variable pitch propellers used in a wide range of aircraft. It's ideally suited to someone who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and quality control.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the end-to-end propeller overhaul process
Disassemble and clean components for inspection
Carry out visual and dimensional checks using tools such as micrometers, verniers, and height gauges
Identify and replace worn or damaged parts
Perform zinc-nickel plating on components when required
Prepare and balance blades for painting
Rebuild propellers to strict specifications
Maintain accurate records for all overhaul activity
Supervise junior team members and maintain a tidy workshop environment

Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Requirements

Strong mechanical engineering knowledge
Experience in aerospace or aviation engineering is a bonus
Proficiency with technical drawings and measurement instruments
Practical, hands-on engineering skills
High attention to detail and quality standards
Ability to work independently and within a small team
Positive, proactive attitude
Interest in aviation or heritage engineering is a bonus
Must be based locally and within a commutable distance to Stroud

Lead Mechanical Engineer Salary & Benefits

40,000 - 44,700 per year
Full-time, Permanent
Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hours/week)
28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
