Workplace description: This beautiful 15th-century building offers 4-star accommodation and a restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes for its fine food. Decorated in warm, relaxing colours, the en suite rooms combine period features with modern facilities. Each includes a flat-screen plasma TV and facilities for making tea and coffee. The on site spa has 6 treatment rooms, 2 relaxation suites, a sauna, steam room, spa boutique and an outdoor vitality pool and terrace. The hotel serves modern British cuisine in its restaurant, made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Main duties and responsibilities: Station Management: Oversee daily operations of their designated kitchen station.
Food Preparation: Prepare and cook dishes to high standards, following recipes and presentation guidelines.
Inventory Management: Manage inventory and ordering of ingredients for their station.
Team Leadership: Train, mentor, and supervise junior staff members.
Quality Control: Ensure dishes meet quality and presentation standards.
Kitchen Hygiene: Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and safety.
Menu Planning: Contribute to menu planning and development.
Time Management: Work efficiently to meet service deadlines.
Problem Solving: Troubleshoot issues with food preparation and presentation.
Collaboration: Work with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
Essential criteria: Culinary Qualifications: Relevant culinary qualifications, such as a City & Guilds or NVQ in Professional Cookery.
Experience: 2-5 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a station chef role.
Culinary Skills: Strong cooking skills, including knife work, cooking techniques, and presentation.
Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a small team.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, ensuring dishes meet quality and presentation standards.
Time Management: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meeting service deadlines.
Communication: Good communication skills, including team collaboration and customer interaction.
Food Safety: Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations, with a relevant certification (e.g., Food Safety Certificate).
Creativity: Ability to contribute to menu planning and development.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects.
