Manufacturing Engineer – Motions
Sunbury-on-Thames
£55,000 + benefits
Permanent, Full-Time

Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in Lean methodologies,
NPI, and electro-mechanical production? We’re recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer – Motions to join a high-specification, low-volume manufacturer operating within a precision engineering environment. Based in Sunbury-on-Thames, this role will suit someone with a hands-on mindset and the ability to drive process efficiency across engineering and operations teams.

This is a proactive, cross-functional position where you’ll engage with design engineering, production, supply chain, and continuous improvement teams. Your main objective is to support both existing and new products through process development, Lean deployment, and data-driven improvements. You'll also help optimise routings, implement standard work, and lead layout or tooling changes in line with evolving business requirements.

The Manufacturing Engineer – Motions role requires a background in electro-mechanical manufacturing—ideally within aerospace, defence, automotive or other high-spec sectors—along with a solid grasp of MRP systems and root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys, 8D and PFMEA.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting production cells with manufacturing process improvements and standardisation
  • Creating and maintaining routings, SOPs, and work instructions within the MRP system
  • Leading Lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, visual management, and flow-line optimisation
  • Collaborating with design and engineering teams on NPI and product lifecycle changes
  • Identifying CAPEX requirements and leading improvement projects from concept to execution
  • Managing layout changes and supporting the implementation of best practice process flows
  • Analysing production data and driving improvements in throughput, labour content, and scrap
  • Coaching cell leaders and supporting shop floor teams with methods, testing and assembly improvements

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience as a Manufacturing or Process Engineer in an electro-mechanical environment
  • Strong knowledge of Lean principles with demonstrable implementation results
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) in a manufacturing setting
  • Confident in using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, PFMEA, SPC and 8D
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and process documentation standards
  • Able to manage complex, long-term projects alongside daily support tasks
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to influence at shop floor and senior level
  • Ideally from aerospace, automotive or similar regulated industry

This Manufacturing Engineer Motions role offers the opportunity to shape and improve processes at a business invested in growth, Lean transformation, and high-integrity engineering. You’ll play a key role in delivering right-first-time production, lower lead times, and improved operator engagement.
