An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher to join a highly regarded specialist school in the Sunderland area this September. This is a permanent role within a nurturing and supportive environment that has been praised for its positive culture and commitment to pupil development.

The school has received a “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted, with particular recognition for its strong leadership, inclusive ethos, and effective support for students’ personal and academic progress. It caters for children and young people aged 5–18 with a range of complex needs, including autism spectrum conditions (ASC), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, and associated learning difficulties. The curriculum is designed to be flexible and accessible, supporting pupils in achieving meaningful outcomes in both academic and life skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated Science lessons to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Contribute to a creative and child-centred curriculum that inspires curiosity and builds confidence
  • Collaborate with a skilled multidisciplinary team to support holistic development
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment
  • Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress in line with EHCP targets and school policy

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Proven experience working with pupils with similar SEND needs (ASC, SEMH, ADHD etc.)
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies tailored to SEN environments
