The School and Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our supply team to work across SEND schools in the Sunderland local authority. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience, and play a part in the wider role of supporting pupils who have special educational needs in accessing education and developing their social and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH and a variety of needs in and out of the classroom to access the curriculum and develop social and emotional skills.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals to deliver tailored interventions and behaviour support plans.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, helping to boost confidence, self-esteem and emotional regulation.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support as required.
  • Promote a calm and nurturing environment, using de-escalation and behaviour management strategies effectively.
