Overview

Jennifer Griffiths Recruitment are seeking to appoint a detail-oriented and organised Clerk to join our Swansea-based client’s team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the diaries of all criminal barristers, coordinating court listings, liaising with solicitors and prosecuting authorities, and supporting the implementation of the criminal marketing plan.

Main aim of the job

  • To maintain the diaries of all criminal barristers efficiently and effectively ensuring that everyone knows their bookings for court and conferences
  • To liaise with the Crown Court listing office to ensure that all counsel can perform work requested by solicitors wherever possible
  • To communicate with solicitors and prosecuting authorities with regard to allocation of work
  • To implement the criminal marketing plan

Objectives

  • To enhance the profitability of the client and practices of individual barristers.
  • To manage all instructions, briefs, documents, files etc to ensure effective and efficient administration
  • To take calls from clients/potential clients in a pleasant business like manner and respond to enquires/instructions appropriately.
  • To manage the daily diary through Meridian.
  • To observe strict observation to all chambers business in a confidential and sensitive manner.

Description of Duties

  • To read, as far as training and experience allows, briefs and case papers and inform barrister/alter diary's appropriately.
  • To ensure all documents/briefs/papers/videos and audio tapes etc are kept safely and securely and are ready/available for individual barristers when required.
  • To update the diary in relation to court dates, conference and other appointments as they are arranged and agreed paying special attention to the availability of barristers, their experience and expertise and their other commitments.
  • To communicate all new work, changes and alterations to current work and requests for work to other clerks, barristers and client involved.
  • To discuss and fix, as far as is appropriate, fees for work, to help prepare fee note information and to ensure the best available remuneration for individual barristers and chambers as a whole.
  • To assist, manage and prepare the Court list liaising, as necessary, with the relevant court officials and informing barristers of their appointments and appearances.
  • To promote, as far as it is reasonable, chambers and individual barristers to clients and prospective clients in order to obtain new work etc.
  • To understand and observe all relevant legislation, Bar Council directives, Circuit instructions, chambers policies and management requirements as are current
  • To be aware of, understand and perform duties with total confidentiality with regard to chambers, barristers and clients affairs and to treat all sensitive information appropriately.
  • To attend all meetings, training courses and interviews as requested and to perform all other duties which may, from time to time, be reasonably required.
  • To bring from/take to the DX office to the DX mail. To sort this and the general post and act on/distribute as necessary.
  • To prepare outgoing mail for evening dispatch.

Hours of work: 8.30am to 6pm

5 days per week

Probation period: 6 months

Salary; £33,000 to £36,000
