Acorn by Synergie is currently recruiting on behalf of their client for a Laboratory Technician for a 6 month contract at a Nickel Refinery in Clydach, Swansea.

The Mond Nickel Refinery, owned & operated by Vale Europe recently celebrated 120 years of production, and is one of the world's leading Nickel refineries. Vale are globally one of the world's largest mining companies, with operations in the UK, Asia, the USA and across Europe.


Key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Ensure all activities comply with QA Laboratory, Refinery, and regulatory EH&S requirements.
  • Collect refinery samples
  • Prepare and analyse product and process samples as per standard procedures
  • Record analytical results in laboratory workbooks and the refinery database.
  • Operate, standardise, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Identify non-conforming work and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintain 5S standards in work areas and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Safe Work Procedure (SWP) and risk assessment reviews, as well as team meetings.
  • Assist with non-routine work and training of new staff as required.
  • Work overtime as necessary to support refinery operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (essential).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a laboratory environment, ideally within the chemical or metals industry.

The ideal candidate will also have a strong desire to contribute to the on-going Continuous Improvement efforts that have been deployed in the Laboratory Area over recent years.

This is a 6 month position covering maternity, however may go on longer. Pro Rata salary is 32,304 over a 37.5 hour week - Monday to Friday.
