Job Switch is seeking an experienced Waste Collections Operations Manager to oversee and lead the delivery of waste collection services in Swindon. This is a key leadership role within the Waste Services management team, ensuring effective service delivery, compliance, and continuous improvement.
The Role
As Waste Collections Operations Manager, you will:
- Lead and manage the Waste Collections Service, overseeing approx. 130 staff with a gross revenue budget of 10m.
- Ensure effective daily operations, resource deployment, and compliance with statutory and council policies.
- Drive service transformation, delivering efficiencies and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Manage supervisory teams (Waste Supervisors, Enforcement Officers, Wardens) to deliver high-quality services to the community.
- Provide strategic and specialist advice on waste policy, legislation, and best practice, including compliance with the Environment Act 2021.
- Oversee health & safety practices, vehicle and equipment compliance, and contractor/partnership arrangements.
- Support senior management and elected members with operational insight and recommendations.
About You
We are looking for a leader with proven experience in waste collections and service delivery. You should have:
- Substantial experience managing waste collections services in the public or private sector.
- Strong knowledge of waste policy, legislation, and health & safety requirements.
- Experience leading large teams, managing budgets, and delivering service improvements.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- A track record of delivering transformational change and fostering collaborative working.
- Relevant professional membership (e.g., CIWM, IEMA, CEnv) is desirable.
- A full driving licence is required.
