Do you have experience leading and co-ordinating the provision of training, learning and development in an organisation with a workforce requiring a complex array of skills and knowledge? Do you have the organisational ability, communication skills and tenacity to source, create and implement effective training solutions in a dynamic environment where priorities often have to be flexed and adapted?

We have been retained by Aston Villa Football Club to find a L&D Lead to centralise, manage and develop the training provision for the organisation. This is a new position, reporting to the Chief People Officer.

Aston Villa Football Club is an elite sports organisation with Men’s and Women’s First Teams and Boys’ and Girls’ Academies, with a full suite of support functions - HR, Finance, Legal & Safeguarding, Operations, Commercial, Marketing, etc - and a workforce of over 1,000 (including matchday staff).

Key aspects of the role:

  • Collaborate with line managers to collate and review training needs.
  • Co-ordinate training provision, including sourcing and liaising with training providers.
  • Ensure effective training courses and programmes are in place for regulatory and compliance requirements to be met.
  • Maintain an accurate database of staff training records.
  • Implement and manage evaluation systems to measure the effectiveness of training.
  • Design, develop and deliver learning solutions, including workshops, e-learning and leadership development programmes - sourcing cost effective external expertise as required.
  • Optimise the use of the organisation’s apprenticeship levy.
  • Broader project work, as part of the wider HR team, such as organisational development initiatives around values and behaviours, leadership capability, talent and succession, coaching and mentoring, and performance management.
