An established and forward-thinking government organisation based in Taunton is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Database Administrator (DBA) to join their Enterprise Applications team. Your new role
As a Database Administrator, you will play a key role in supporting and evolving the organisation's database estate, which includes both on-premise Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments, as well as cloud-based platforms-primarily Azure SQL Managed Instances. You'll be responsible for system administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and ensuring the security and resilience of database services. You'll also contribute to project work, provide technical input, and help shape the future of the organisation's data infrastructure.
This hybrid role requires regular on-site presence (approximately 60% of working time) at the organisation's modern offices in Taunton, Somerset. There may also be a requirement for participation in a 24/7 on-call support rota, depending on your skill set. MUST HAVE DV CLEARANCE
What you'll need to succeed
- Hands-on experience with either Oracle (19c) or Microsoft SQL Server (2019+)
- Strong understanding of database design, implementation, and support
- Experience troubleshooting complex database issues and performance tuning
- Proficiency in Windows Server administration
- Interest or experience in cloud-based database platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure
- A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions
- Willingness to develop skills in additional database technologies as needed
- Eligibility for DV (Developed Vetting) clearance, which requires sole British nationality
