SEN Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision (Gardening & Outdoor Learning Focus)

Location: Taunton, Somerset
Pay: 14.66 per hour (PAYE) or 16.14 per hour (Umbrella)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 16:00 (Early finish Friday at 15:30)

Prospero Teaching is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream secondary school and help run an alternative provision focused on gardening and outdoor activities. This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys hands-on learning and making a positive impact.



Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEN needs (including SEMH, ASC, ADHD) in a creative, nurturing environment.
  • Lead and assist with gardening and outdoor learning projects.
  • Deliver tailored interventions and encourage engagement through practical activities.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and wellbeing.


Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with SEN students or a strong interest in special education.
  • Enthusiasm for gardening/outdoor learning.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and manage challenging behaviour calmly.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Right to work in the UK
