A brand-new Primary SEN provision is opening this September in Tavistock, and we’re looking for dedicated and passionate educators to join the founding team. This setting supports children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and is part of a highly regarded regional SEN Trust recognised for its inclusive, research-informed approach.

About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with pupils aged 4-11, supporting their learning, emotional development, and well-being. Your work will include 1:1 and group-based support, as well as assisting with personal care, therapy delivery, and positive behaviour management.

You’ll be part of a committed, collaborative team shaping an inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH and/or ASD in and out of class
  • Implement personalised support strategies (IEPs/BSPs)
  • Promote social integration and emotional regulation
  • Assist with therapy plans (e.g., speech & language, physio)
  • Deliver care needs including toileting, feeding, and medical support (training provided)
  • Manage challenging behaviours in a positive, proactive way
  • Support teachers in lesson delivery and resource preparation
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil reviews
  • Ensure safeguarding protocols are followed at all times

Ideal Candidate:

Essential:

  • At least 1 year of experience supporting SEN/SEMH learners or relevant care experience
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Compassionate, resilient, and confident working independently
  • Awareness of safeguarding and child protection

Desirable:

  • Experience in a special school or care setting
  • Training in medical or therapy procedures
  • Level 2/3 TA or relevant childcare qualification
  • Confident using IT and learning systems
