Controls & Automation Engineer – Nights

Location: Telford, UK
Shift: Permanent Night Shift (37.5 hours/week)
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 + 33% shift allowance
Total Package: Approx. £66,500 – £73,150 per annum

We are working with a globally recognised Tier 1 automotive supplier who are investing heavily in automation and innovation at their advanced manufacturing site in Telford.

They are now looking to hire a Controls & Automation Engineer on a permanent night shift to play a key role in the development, implementation, and optimisation of automated solutions across a high-tech facility that includes High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC), CNC machining, heat treatment, and assembly cells.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Implement safe and sustainable automated processes to improve productivity and quality.
  • Develop and optimise Siemens S7 PLC programs and WinCC/WinCC Flex HMIs.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities to increase uptime and reduce cycle times.
  • Collaborate with NPI and AME teams to specify and integrate new automation solutions.
  • Analyse OEE and support root cause investigations to improve performance.
  • Support burst builds, product launches, and the integration of new hardware and vision systems.
  • Ensure version control and documentation is always up to date.

What We're Looking For:

  • HNC or equivalent in Electrical/Manufacturing Engineering
  • Strong PLC and HMI programming experience – ideally Siemens S7 & WinCC
  • Hands-on problem-solving capability with automation, controls, and process systems
  • Background in automotive or high-volume manufacturing preferred
  • Familiarity with Lean tools, OEE, Poka Yoke, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
