TARA Recruitment is proud to be supporting a Telford School in the appointment of aNon-Teaching Head of Year – Year 9.This is a vital pastoral leadership role focused on supporting student wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and personal development during a key stage of secondary education.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure students in Year 9 are supported to achieve their full potential both academically and personally. This role is ideal for an experienced pastoral professional who is passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of YearÂ-
Lead and manage the pastoral support for all students in Year 9

Promote positive behaviour, high standards of attendance, and student wellbeing

Act as a key point of contact for students, parents/carers, and staff
-
Monitor and support students’ progress, behaviour, and safeguarding concerns
-
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and senior leadership to implement school policies
-
Support students through challenges and contribute to early intervention strategies
-
Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and meetings as required

Experience working with young people in a pastoral, behaviour, or student support role (school-based experience preferred)

Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and student wellbeing

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally

Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and high expectations for all students

Experience working within asecondary school setting

Knowledge of attendance strategies and behaviour intervention programmes

Relevant qualifications in youth work, education support, pastoral care, or similar
