My client a forward-thinking building services contractor delivering exceptional residential and commercial projects. As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for a talented and detail-focused Mechanical CAD/Design Engineer to join our dynamic design team.
The Role
This is a hands-on design role where you’ll contribute to the full lifecycle of mechanical building services design. Reporting to the Mechanical Team Leader, you’ll be producing high-quality drawings, performing key calculations, and collaborating across disciplines to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce schematics, layouts, elevations, and detailed mechanical drawings using AutoCAD (Revit experience is a bonus).
- Perform mechanical engineering calculations including heat loss, pipework, and duct sizing using tools such as Hevacomp etc.
- Prepare equipment schedules aligned with Employers’ Requirements, project specifications, and design standards.
- Review and check design documents and calculations for accuracy and compliance with building regulations and British Standards.
- Identify and resolve design risks with practical, well-communicated solutions.
- Collaborate professionally with clients, consultants, and contractors in design meetings and through technical queries.
- Maintain organised and accurate documentation using electronic document management systems.
- Support the development and delivery of installation-level Stage 5 designs.
- Represent the company at client and project team meetings throughout the design and delivery process.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical building services or HVAC design.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience desirable.
- Working knowledge of CAD, Hevacomp, and familiarity with SAP/SBEM modelling tools.
- Strong understanding of Building Regulations, British Standards, and industry best practices.
- Experience with technical submissions and document management systems.
- HNC or higher qualification in Building Services or related discipline preferred.
- Strong communication skills with a proactive, team-oriented approach.
- Solid IT and organisational skills.
