Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer

Location: Berkshire

Type: Permanent | Full-time

About the Company

This is a well-established independent building services consultancy with around 25 staff, delivering Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) design as their core expertise. Alongside MEP, the business also provides BREEAM assessments, EPC assessments, and sustainability advice, creating a balanced and forward-thinking consultancy.

The practice works across a wide variety of sectors, with a particularly strong reputation in retail - delivering projects for some of the UK's best-known high-street and distribution brands. Project work spans refurbishments, new builds, feasibility studies, and contractor-led designs, covering retail, distribution centres, education, and more.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a key role in leading projects from concept through to delivery. You'll have the opportunity to work on flagship retail developments, large-scale distribution facilities, and education projects, supporting sustainable design strategies and mentoring junior engineers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the mechanical design on a range of building services projects.

  • Collaborating with clients, architects, and contractors to ensure successful delivery.

  • Supporting the integration of sustainability principles, including BREEAM and EPC requirements.

  • Producing technical reports, feasibility studies, and performance specifications.

  • Guiding and mentoring junior engineers, contributing to team development.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent).

  • Significant experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.

  • Chartered (CEng) or working towards Chartership.

  • Familiarity with sustainability assessments (BREEAM, EPC) is an advantage.

  • Proficient in mechanical design software and BIM tools (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD MEP).

  • Strong communicator with proven experience in client-facing roles.

Why Join?

  • Work on high-profile retail and distribution projects with household-name clients.

  • Be part of a close-knit, independent consultancy where your expertise has impact.

  • Opportunities for professional growth, progression, and Chartered Engineer support.

  • A collaborative culture that values sustainability, innovation, and technical excellence.
