Westlakes Recruit are currently supporting one of our major clients recruiting for an EC&I Commissioning Manager, to work on one of their Nuclear Defence projects in based in Berkshire on a contract basis.

We're offering an exciting opportunity for an Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Commissioning Manager to join our team on a major Nuclear Defence project in Berkshire, where we act as the Construction Manager for AWE. This is your chance to contribute to one of the UK's most technically demanding projects, ensuring the safe and successful commissioning of specialist equipment, building services, and control systems required to operate a cutting-edge facility.



Key Responsibilities


  • Lead commissioning for EC&I systems, including BMS, HVAC, and Process Plant Equipment (Siemens S7 PLC system).

  • Manage the creation, review, and approval of commissioning documentation for BMS, Electrical, and Software systems.

  • Oversee and resolve any issues identified during commissioning through the commissioning reservation process.

  • Ensure all testing and commissioning activities follow safe working procedures consistently.

  • Witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Setting to Work (STW), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

  • Coordinate and manage test failure investigations and resolutions.

  • Deliver and oversee commissioning work packages within a highly regulated, complex project environment.

  • Apply AWE commissioning procedures and ensure compliance with ONR License Condition 21 Commissioning.

  • Support the development and implementation of the overall project commissioning strategy.

  • Plan and coordinate commissioning tests with suppliers and integrate requirements into the project schedule.

  • Provide regular commissioning progress reports to key stakeholders.

  • Manage commissioning schedule changes, resource allocations, and forecasts effectively.

  • Chair reviews with stakeholders, including design, change, and procedure reviews.


About You


We're looking for someone with:


  • Significant EC&I experience in commissioning BMS systems, ventilation plant, or similar, with a strong record of managing teams to achieve successful outcomes.

  • Proven experience delivering complex projects in defence or similarly technical and highly regulated sectors.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.

  • A thorough understanding of commissioning methodologies and processes.

  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills (Microsoft Office proficiency).

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Sound technical knowledge and leadership capabilities, with experience in nuclear or regulated industries.

  • An understanding of mechanical, civil, and process systems and how they integrate with EC&I systems.


Desirable Knowledge & Skills:


  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience in Low Voltage Electrical Distribution, Control Systems, Building Services & Management Systems, and Earthing & Lightning system design.

  • Knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61508, 61511, 61513) and functional safety concepts.

  • Project management experience and training.


Qualifications


  • HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or Degree in Controls/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience/training).


Security


Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance required-or willingness and eligibility to obtain clearance.
