Senior Design Engineer / Watton / Full-Time Permanent / £45,000 - £55,000

Position 1 Recruitment is hiring a Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering, team leadership, and technical development to support our client.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will lead a team of engineers in the UK and India, support complex heater design projects, and act as the technical authority on engineering matters. You will also be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions that meet both internal and client standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Project Engineering team to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
  • Work closely with the Project Management team, providing support to project engineers and attending client meetings when required.
  • Approve final drawings, technical documentation, and bills of materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Take ownership of engineering calculations, material selection, and design analysis, using appropriate tools and methodologies.
  • Act as the technical authority across departments and take on a client-facing role in project engineering discussions.
  • Train and mentor engineering team members, offering guidance, technical appraisals, and support on large or complex projects.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant certification requirements, as well as applicable local and international standards and regulations.
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing products and the development of new engineering solutions.
  • Plan team output and mentor engineers in both the UK and India as part of the project engineering leadership responsibilities.
  • Uphold and develop engineering best practices, including drawing development and design optimisation, ensuring accurate and timely delivery to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Manager to ensure smooth handovers from Sales to Engineering and alignment with project requirements.
  • Proactively manage company systems, ensuring that all records and documentation are kept current and accurate.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering procedures and lead continuous improvement efforts.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance the accuracy and performance of engineering output.

Senior Design Engineer You should have experience in leading engineering teams and delivering technically complex mechanical products. A degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) is required, along with strong knowledge of engineering standards, design tools, and project delivery.

Experience with product certification, engineering documentation, and mentoring junior engineers is essential. Familiarity with design tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

This is full-time permanent role, Monday to Thursday: 08:30 to 17:30, Friday: 08:30 to 15:00.
Hybrid working available: 3 days in-office, 2 days from home following probation.
