As Lead Teacher, you will take on a key leadership role within the educational environment, responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of a high-quality and aspirational curriculum for students aged 14-19. You will oversee the management of the teaching environment, ensuring that students are supported in achieving academic success, while maintaining a focus on creating a safe and inclusive atmosphere.

Your leadership will be central in fostering a positive learning culture, where students can excel in their studies and grow academically, socially, and personally. You will also play a key role in developing and implementing strategies that ensure both teaching staff and students thrive in the educational setting.

Main Duties & Accountabilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Teach GCSEs in Maths and/or English.
  • Build effective, supportive relationships with students and families/carers; embed trust and support within the educational process.
  • Manage, implement, and monitor the timetable to ensure that teachers and support staff are deployed effectively, contributing to student success.
  • Oversee and coordinate the development of your subject(s) area.
  • Plan, produce, and update schemes of work to meet curriculum, inspection, and accreditation requirements, ensuring compliance with guidance from relevant educational bodies.

Leadership and Management

  • Manage and analyse performance data, reporting to the Centre Manager and taking appropriate actions to address areas of underperformance.
  • Lead efforts to improve teaching and learning quality by following established observation procedures.
  • Implement the contribution review process by setting targets for individual and team performance and addressing staff underperformance in a timely and effective manner.
  • Support the training and development of staff to ensure the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning.

Qualifications

  • A recognized QTS qualification (or willingness to work towards).
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification.
  • Proven experience working with students with complex needs, including those with challenging behaviours, and additional learning needs. Experience in a similar educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience in line management, including setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing regular supervision, and managing staff performance effectively.
  • An in-depth understanding of a wide range of teaching, learning, and behaviour management strategies. You will be able to adapt your approach to meet the diverse needs of students, providing opportunities for all learners to succeed.
